The regional gtz project “Promotion of Innovation and Technology for SMEs in the Near East” prepared a study of the National Innovation System in Syria which was presented and discussed during the workshop.
As the responsible ministry for developing a supportive business environment, the Ministry of Economy and Trade assisted in the organization of this meeting and hosted the workshop.
The NIS study was prepared by the German expert Mr.Seidel who visited Syria during July and conducted interviews with many institutions and individuals in order to assess the NIS in Syria.
The project manager Mrs.Alexandra Hilblig presented the concept of innovation as a base for discussion, then Mr.Seidel presented the methodology of the study and the main findings that are summarized in the following priorities for developing the NIS in Syria:
– Enhancing the national innovation policy in Syria.
– Adopting and implementing a national strategy for Innovation.
– Developing the culture of entrepreneurship.
– Establishing incubators and incubation services to enable the transformation of innovative ideas into competitive products and services
